Yurt Camp Liverton Devon Christmas Fayre – Free event

So today we ventured out to the Christmas Fare – Free event, In the hope of finding some good Christmas gifts for the relatives.

This is the first year the Yurt Camp has done this, it was a reasonable turn out stall wise, with about 12 stalls in total.

Christmas Fayre Stalls
The Stalls

I don’t usually venture out to Christmas Fayre’s as I know the kids will badger me for money to spend!!. Plus i’m relatively good at crafty things!… not usually overly impressed by other people’s home-made items…harsh I know!.

I avoid the sweet stalls, if i want to by a cone of sweets I would buy the cones and sweets separately and get the kids to make them up (they would love this, but it would be One for the cone, Two for the mouth.

We headed straight for the food stall…and wow ! Mike and Leanne Welsh (M.Welsh Catering Services) A Devon based family run business (with over 20 year of catering experience) now run all of the outside catering events at The Yurt Camp. We all tucked into a “Pig In Blanket” Hot dog, The quality of sausage was spot on! They certainly know quality food!.

Sporting Christmas jumpers, hats with elf ears! the Christmas spirit was well and truly there!. It’s apparent they know good food and a have a true passion for producing locally sourced products and a good price for consumers!!. They also cater for weddings and private functions!, plus much more. Their hog roast is not to be missed!.

Wax melts!…I nearly walked straight pass this stall of beauts!..I’m so glad I didn’t!. I thought it was bath soaps!, which having a boy with Eczema, scented soaps are a no go. My Sister In Law was under the same impression! But she even went a step further to think the buttons were nipple rubs! hahaha!!. If only we had read the signage we would have seen straight away that they were candle melts!

The Stall “WhicksnWhacks” is a Locally based , Mother and Daughter run Company that’s been running about 10 years. Anna (the Daughter) was running the stall, she had a really engaging personality…she naturally draws in the consumers!. I could have talked all day to her!. They have a huge internet business that appears to be thriving!.

The stall set up was inviting!, bright colours, lots of jars and lots of samples that you could sniff!.

Meeting Santa

Santa was on site with a very chirpy elf!…they were both very engaging with the kids… handing out free sweets and letters for Santa were available.

Santa Letters
Santa Letters were great touch!

The Yurt Site

The site bursts with quaintness!, it’s a really lovely site with a fab cafe, staff are friendly and polite. On site parking, coffee’s inside the cafe are freshly ground and at reasonable prices! which is a bonus. Its well worth a look.

So all in all, we left happy! stomachs full of LUSH food and lots of wax melts!

Kids we happy! …result!

Free Fun – The Jolly Roger Ltd – Lifesize Models

For months now, the kid’s have been moaning on at me to go to The Jolly Roger, Bovey Tracey, Devon. It’s free and we had the opportunity one day during the holidays, so off we set…

Lifesize Models

Star Wars Life Size Models Devon

Most importantly, it is Free to look around the showroom. It’s safe, larger models are anchored down, sign’s encourage visitors to take photographs also including uploading to Facebook.

The Jolly Roger – the largest supplier of resin and fibre-glass 3D life-size models, figures and statues.

Free Fun in Devon

First of all, the showroom entrance is ground level, with stairs up to the First floor. There isn’t a lift, so due to this, the First floor (In my opinion) is not wheelchair friendly. Having said that there is an abundance of Models to look at outside and the Ground floor.

Something there for all ages!

Free Fun in Devon

But due to the opening times of Monday to Friday 9am-4pm, and not being open over the Weekends, it’s only possible (If at School) to visit during the School Holidays.

So over the October half term we went along one afternoon. And wow, it was really good to look around the showroom…and all for free!.

They have hundreds of models, including minions, Dr Who, Star Wars, Dinosaurs, Toy Soldiers, Toy Story, Aliens…a huge selection of animals. Not to mention a TRANSFORMER!!!, Dionysus nearly wet himself when he saw Bumblebee, alas no photo this time as he was tucked away.

As it was heading towards Halloween, they’d made up a Halloween themed walkway and room, which was really well thought out!, I was even a little scared walking around. The kid’s on the other hand didn’t seem fazed by this…saying it was fun. But then I can’t even watch a horror film without clenching a pillow!!.

On the whole, we all had a great few hours of free fun.

Bovey Tracey also has a number of quaint shops, charity shops and lovely tea rooms, which are well worth checking out!.
